How French granny stuck in loo for 3 weeks kept her spirits up
Sydney: An elderly French woman, who was trapped in her windowless bathroom for three weeks, kept herself calm by taking showers and brushing her teeth. The 69-year-old grandmother 's ordeal started when she accidentally broke the lock on her bathroom door in the Paris suburb of Epinay-sous-Senart on November 1. "She was at her wits' end," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted her neighbour as telling a French media. "Her flat is on the second floor and has no window, so she couldn't call for help. There was absolutely nothing she could do except bang on the wall at night," the neighbour added. But the woman's bangs for help, which included tapping on the pipes, only stoked the ire of her neighbours, who launched a complaint to find out who was making the racket. "You could hear banging sounds, like a hammer, even at night. But we thought they were doing work at night. We said: 'They are going too far! They are preventing us from sleeping!' If we had known ...,"said another neighbour. The woman, who was not named, survived from the tap water in her bathroom, brushed her teeth repeatedly and took lots of showers to keep herself calm. The police were called when neighbours eventually became concerned nobody had seen her for three weeks. The woman was found in a 'terrible' state when fire fighters broke into her home. The woman was undernourished and is now recovering in the hospital, the police said. "She's a very popular lady but keeps herself to herself and people presumed she was on holiday," an officer said.
