Water supply cut in south, western suburbs of Mumbai
Mumbai: The water crisis in the city continues after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) cut off water supply to many parts of the city. The BMC had
called for water cuts for three days in the south and western suburbs of the city, as the pipelines are being replaced. Most of the southern parts of the city are facing almost zero water supply, whereas other parts are faring slightly better. The residents are now mainly depending on water tanks for water supply, and with each pot of water costing 8-10 rupees, the poor are the worst hit. Suhasini, a domestic housemaid, living in south Mumbai, said the water crisis at the time of price hike has hit them hard. "We are having constant tension; we wake up in the morning with tension about water in our minds. If the situation is like this, how will we make a living? We do need to go out daily for work, as the government wouldn't give us anything," said Suhasini.
"Food prices are anyway high, and on top of that we are not getting water either. So what should we do?" she asked. Yamuna, another resident of Worli, had similar
sentiments as she said that water crisis is another woe that has added to the poor man's life. "We are facing a lot of problems due to lack of water supply. There are so
many members in our family to go for work and without water it is very difficult," she said. The water crisis is expected to continue for some more days, according to the
BMC.
