Chennai:The 13th edition of National Racing Championship 2010 commenced here during the weekend, with 150 drivers participating in the event. The two-day racing
championship
is held under categories like Chennai Polo Cup, Formula LGB Swift, Super Saloons,
Formula Rolon and the Indian Junior Touring Class. "This year, we are now under
penalty round, the fifth year of the National Racing Championship today in Chennai.
You will be surprised that this new initiative of grassroots-level racing of Polo
Cup that started this year has added so much that championship is still open with
one round to go," said Sanjay Sharma, Manager of the National Racing
Championship
2010. "They are all youngsters, 18 years and below who are participating in this
event. So, I think, whatever we had designed and whatever we wanted from the
motor
sport championship this year, we have got much more," he added. Teams running
in the fray are Amaron Pro Racing, Meco Racing, Rams Racing, Mars Racing, VA-
RAD Racing, Performance Racing, N1 Racing, Prine Racing, Team TVS Girling,
Team
Wallace Sports, Team Aerodene Race Krafts, Team Game Over, Team Moto Rev
India,
and Team Hot Cars Zone. Sharma further said India had a good breed of drivers
but lacked technology and hoped the country will be totally prepared by October
2011 when Formula one comes to India . "We do not have the same technology as
our counterparts in Europe . But with Volkswagen (VW) as a first manufacturer
coming in, and you will see all-new formula cars, which will be launched in 2011.
India will be totally prepared to be a big force in motor sport in the world,"
said Sharma. He said such kinds of events would provide ample opportunities to
young racers to improve their skills and gain experience, which will help them
to face international challenges.
