Building collapses in Ahmedabad, two killed
Ahmedabad: Two people were killed and at least fifteen people were feared trapped in the debris following the collapse of a five-storied under-construction building in Kalupur area of Ahmedabad this morning. The collapse followed overnight rain. Media reports said earlier five persons died and seven others were injured. Initial reports indicated the apartment building, which was under renovation, also damaged four other houses adjacent to it when it crumbled down. The dead - a grandfather-grandson duo - were buried under the debris, police said. They were pulled out of the rubble by the fire department officials and rushed to a nearby hospital where the grandson was declared brought dead, they said. The grandfather died in the hospital. Sudden collapse of the building had also damaged several nearby residential buildings. Relief and rescue operations had already been started and about eight injured were shifted to a city hospital. Fire brigade staff and police cordoned the area.
