New Delhi: Cold wave is sweeping through northern India. Parts of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh have had snow and rain, bringing down the temperature and impacting the Central plains. According to the meteorological department in Srinagar, the Capital had 4 mm of rainfall and the minimum temperature was 0.3 deg C. Pahalgam received 12.3 cm of snow and Qazigund 3.4 cm. experienced a low of minus 8.8 deg C. Leh, headquarters of Ladakh, recorded minus 10.7 deg C.
Himachal Pradesh's higher reaches like the hill resort of Manali received 15 mm of snowfall. The Capital Shimla received 11 cm of snowfall and was cut off the from the rest of the State as snow and rain blocked traffic. Schools are closed on Monday.
Fog returned to Delhi, the maximum temperature was four degrees below normal at 19.6 deg C on Sunday, and the minimum was also down to 7.2 deg C.
Cold conditions prevailed in most parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh. The minimum temperature fell five degrees below normal in several areas.
Several parts of north India had received heavy rain and snow on Saturday. It was raining in Punjab and Haryana on Friday too.
Rajasthan too was shivering under sever cold conditions.
