Sundar Pichai from India is Google CEO - A simple man producing things simple to use
CHENNAI: Pichai Sundararajan or Sundar Pichai, the wizard from India who runs most of the vital operations and innovates products of the giant Google currently, has been appointed as the CEO of the company.

In a meteoric rise, Pichai the team-maker and nice guy had become the in-charge of running the day-to-day affairs of the tech giant in October last.

"It is clear to us and our board that it is time for Sundar to be CEO of Google," Larry Page, the current CEO and co-founder, said in his post.

“Sundar has been saying the things I would have said (and sometimes better!) for quite some time now, and I’ve been tremendously enjoying our work together,” Page said in the blog post while announcing Alphabet, his new restructured company.

One who believes in the equality of man, the graceful and dedicated Pichai will now unveil a massive plan to deliver computing capabilities to the people around the world, as he projected his visualisatiion to the company's board.

It is strange but true that Pichai has secondary focus on monetisation.

Pichai's elevation follows in quick succession to another Indian, Satya Nadella's appointment as the CEO of another tech giant, Microsoft, recently. Meanwhile, Satya Nadella and Google's Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt have congratulated Pichai.

Pichai Sundararajan or Sundar Pichai was born in Chennai in 1972, south India. His father, Regunatha Pichai, an electrical engineer for a British companty, was his inspiration. A mathematically talented Pichai had his schooling there and took his degree in engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur. He studied for MS at the Stanford University and has MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

After serving several organisations in the US like McKinsey & Company, Pichai, a boy born with a natural proximity to numbers and digits, made his entry into Google in 2004 and gradually took charge of product innovation research of Google softwares. Google Chrome forged ahead under his efforts. He made appreciable contributions in the development of Chrome, Gmail, Google Maps and new video formats. Android too took wings under his stewardship. The secret of the simple man's success is he produced things simple and easy to use.

Last year Google founder and CEO Larry Page appointed him as the Product Chief of Google. Now Pichai will be the CEO of Google. He will take over after the restructuring of all the Google sister companies under a parent company called Alphabet Inc, which will be headed by Larry Page.

Larry Page has this to say on his Google blog about his just announced new venture Alphabet, which will undergo a most convoluted restructuring process: "What is Alphabet? Alphabet is (will be) mostly a collection of companies. The largest of which, of course, is Google. This newer Google is a bit slimmed down, with the companies that are pretty far afield of our main internet products contained in Alphabet instead..." Convoluted because, as one of the procedures goes, first Alphabet will be set up as a subsidiary like one of the Google companies, and simultaneously an apex dummy company will also come into being. Subsequently, Alphabet will 'cut' the dummy and 'paste' there!

And, he had an explanation, well illustrative of his faculty and an acumen for successful business, for the unique name he coined: "We liked the name Alphabet because it means a collection of letters that represent language, one of humanity's most important innovations, and is the core of how we index with Google search! We also like that it means alpha‑bet (Alpha is investment return above benchmark), which we strive for!"

Amazing! But, Sorry, alphabet.com isn't available!
