MUMBAI: At last, the railways has decided to have arrangements to provide medical assistance to rail passengers, espcially for victims of train accidents. It has decided to start first-aid clinics on Public Private Partnership (PPP) at major suburban stations in Mumbai and Thane, to
begin with.
It is recorded that every year about 3,000 passengers lose their lives across the three suburban train lines here in accidents. Out of the 3,000, half of the victims die due to lack of timely medical treatment.
The first-aid clinics will provide free of cost medical service and treatment at stations such as Borivali, Kandivali, Malad, Goregaon, Andheri, Vile Parle, Santacruz, Bandra, Dadar, Mumbai Central, Kurla, Ghatkopar, Mulund, Thane, Kalyan, Kopar, Diva, Karjat and Kasara.
An ambulance will also be provided which can take the injured to the nearest hospital.
In the final stage, the railway board is working on the modalities of the PPP-model.
