Autorickshaw permits only for Marathi-speaking applicants in Mumbai
MUMBAI: Permits for new autorickshaws will be issued only to Marathi-speaking people in Mumbai. The Maharashtra state transport department will issue new one lakh autorickshaw permits in November in Mumbai Metropolitan Region with the condition that the applicants must know Marathi. They should also be domicile residents of the State. An applicant should also be 8th class pass.
The new autorickshaws will have GPS and RPRS system installed. Transport Minister Diwakar Raote said in other cities like Solapur, Aurangabad, Nashik, Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad around 7,500 permits will be issued.
The Government will also regularize over 1.4 lakh autorickshaws in the State, on a fee of Rs 20,000 for MMR region and Rs 15,000 elsewhere.
