VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will release
Godavari river waters into Krishna river on Wednesday to mark the formal linking
of the two rivers. The fuction will be held at Ibrahimpatnam village near here.
State Water Resources Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao said the river
linking project will divert 80 TMC of water from Godavari to Krishna.
The linkage of Godavari with Krishna is being done by the 'Pattiseema' lift
irrigation scheme on Godavari river at Pattisam village in West Godavari district.
This river linkage, Naidu said, would be beneficial for drought-proofing
Rayalaseema which is a parched zone in the state. The Chief Minister said that
the process of riverlinking will help in solving water problems in the state.
The 'Indian rivers inter-link' is a large-scale civil engineering project that aims
to link India's rivers by a network of reservoirs and canals to reduce persistent
floods in some parts and water shortages in other parts.
