MSG-2 movie to be released on Friday, court dismisses plea for ban
NEW DELHI: The decks have been cleared for the release of a sequel of the controversial movie 'MSG' ('Messenger of God') on Friday with the Delhi High Court dismissing a petition seeking a ban on the movie. The petitioner has pleaded on the flimsy ground that film MSG depicts adivasis as anti-national.

Actor-producer and head of Sikh sect Dera Sacha Sauda, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh's 'MSG-2' is all set to be released on Friday. Ram Rahim is a spiritual leader with a huge following.

The court said, "The subject of the film from the trailer is found to be depicting a fantasy to the viewers and has to be understood in the said light only. In fact, in some scenes in the trailer, adivasis are shown with two horns and having the lower body as of an animal and the upper torso of a human being."

Additional Solicitor General Sanjay Jain contended that a reading of the entire script of the trailer does not make out a case of violation of the law. The court said the petition by Prem Mardi undermines the 'average intelligence' of Indian citizens.

Elsewhere, this time the sequel of 'Messenger of God' has hardly any opposition from the Akal Takht, SGPC or radical Sikh outfits.

Last time, the Akal Takht and Sikh hardliners had opposed the first movie which led to a ban on its screening in Punjab.

About the MSG-2 SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar said the government should ensure that there is nothing in the new movie that hurts the Sikh sentiments. Radical Sikh outfit Dal Khalsa leader Kanwar Pal Singh also said it is not aware of any blatant anti-Sikh issues in the MSG sequel. However, the All India Sikh Students Federation chief Karnail Singh Peermohammed said they would oppose the release f MSG-2.

Earlier, the Punjab government had banned the screening of MSG in the state in January this year following intelligence reports that it could lead to tension. It was lifted later.
