Non-stop Air India flight to San Francisco from December
NEW DELHI: India's national carrier Air India has announced plans to operate the world's longest non-stop flight between New Delhi or Bengaluru, capital of Karnataka State, and San Francisco, in US, a distance of 14,000 km that takes 18 hours. The Boeing 777-200 long range aircraft is likely to be deployed on the route.

At present the longest non-stop flight is between Dallas in the US and Sydney in Australia - 13,700 km in 16 hours.

After his speech at the SAP Center in San Jose, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the "one good news." "It will fly three times a week," the PM told the gathering.

The direct flight is expected to start on December 2 this year, providing a big relief to Indian IT professionals working in the West Coast. "We are launching a direct non-stop flight to San Francisco on December 2 as there was a demand for it," Air India CMD Ashwani Lohani told the press.

Air India already has flights to New York, Newark and Chicago. These are daily non-stop flights.

The new flight will be operated on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays from India. There will be connecting flights from Bengaluru/Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kochi, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Pune and Bhubaneswar.

The Prime Minister, on a five-day tour of the USA, was the first Indian PM to visit the Silicon Valley in 33 years.

California where Silicon Valley is situated, has a large population of Indians. Like Silicon Valley, Bengaluru is also known as an electronic city.
