Amaravati-Vijayawada Metro Rail Project: DMRC starts tender process
Vijayawada: The process for the construction of the Amaravati-Vijayawada Metro Rail has begun with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) inviting e-tenders for the design and construction of elevated viaduct and stations for the project.

The DMRC was appointed as a consultant for the Amaravati-Vijayawada project. It has floated the first set of tenders. The work is likely to be completed by 2018.

Of the two segments starting work right away, one covers rail network and five elevated stations on the Pandit Nehru Bus Stand–Nidamanur corridor of Amaravati-Vijayawada Metro.

The 26-km elevated metro rail project along two corridors will cost the State Government Rs 6,800 crore. The Centre has agreed to support the project.

Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation, a body on the lines of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, has been formed. Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation will manage the proposed metro rail network in the new capital region.

The metro project will become a vital necessity with the new Capital for the Andhra Pradesh State after the State's division to carve out a new Telangana State, comes up on the banks of Krishna. The population of Vijayawada is also projected to increase manyfold in the near future.
