Mauritian woman's handbag stolen in Metro, recovered; one arrested

NEW DELHI: A 32-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stealing a Mauritian woman's handbag while she was travelling in the Delhi Metro, on Tuesday.

The police said Ajay Kumar, resident of Sant Nagar, had on Saturday stolen Misrah Banon Osman's bag while she was travelling from Rajouri Garden to Netaji Subhash Place on the Metro.

Misrah Banon Osman had made an online complaint at the Netaji Subhash Place Metro Police Station. She claimed her bag had $ 3,000, some Indian currency and other valuables.

The police examined the CCTV footage of the metro stations and found a person carrying a ladies bag at the Azad Pur Metro Station, Dinesh Gupta, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Metro) said.

On Tuesday, a trap was laid at Bhikaji Kama Place Metro Station and the accused was nabbed, he said.

During interrogation, Kumar admitted that he was seated beside the victim in the train and in the crush he managed to steal the bag.
