Detached engine and 3 coaches of Panchavati Express speed away

March 7, 2019

MUMBAI: The engine of a Mumbai-bound train, along with three of its coaches, got detached from the rest of the train on its own and sped away on Thursday morning at Kalyan station.

The Manmad-Mumbai Panchavati Express had 15 coaches. The bizarre incident took place at around 8.30 am, according to Central Railway officials. The train was headed for south Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus or CSMT, 58 km away.

"There are no casualties. We shall find out what led to this," a Central Railway spokesperson told reporters.

The train was reconnected later and reached Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus safely.

However, there was disruption to suburban and long-distance services for some time because of the incident.

Earlier, a similar incident had taken place involving Ahmedabad-Puri Express.
