National Commission for Women to probe alleged molestation of an air hostess
New Delhi:
The National Commission for Women (NCW) has decided to institute
an investigative committee to probe into the charges of molestation levelled by
an air hostess against two pilots in an Air India flight on its way from Sharjah
to Lucknow last week. This was revealed by Girija Vyas, Chairperson of NCW here
on Monday. The airhostess, who has already field a complaint and registered an
FIR (first information report) with the Delhi Police charging the pilots of molestation
during a mid-air scuffle, moved the NCW and record her specific grievances. She
has preferred to remain unnamed at the moment. Consequently, the NCW has sought
a report from Air India and has decided to set up a committee to look into the
complaint. "Taking into consideration the seriousness of the matter, we will set
up a separate investigative committee because a lot of things need to be looked
into," said Girija Vyas. The air hostess mentioned that she had full faith in
the NCW and this is the reason she had approached this body. "I have come here
to seek justice. I am a woman and National Commission for Women will provide justice
to me and I have full faith in my organisation," she said. The incident occurred
in the cockpit of flight IC-884 on Saturday when the air hostess was allegedly
molested which followed a mid air scuffle between the pilots and other crew members
led by a steward. When the aircraft landed in India , acting upon the complaint
of the air hostess, the pilot Ranbeer Arora, co-pilot Aditya Chopra, the airhostess
and a flight purser Amit Khanna were de-rostered by the airline management which
took a serious view of the scuffle.
