Gill calls Kalmadi to discuss recent tiff with Hooper
New Delhi:Union Sports Minister MS Gill on Tuesday called Delhi Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi to discuss about the recent tiff between Kalmadi and the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) CEO Mike Hooper. Gill called on Kalmadi at his residence, where the former enquired about the tiff and also took note of the recent developments with regard to the 2010 Commonwealth games to be held in the national capital. While talking to media after the meeting Gill said: “I met Kalmadi and had a long discussion on all the matters. I will also be talking to (CGF chief) Mike Fennell over phone. There is also a meeting with Fennell, Hooper and Kalmadi in London on October 28.” Gill further said that despite the controversy both the committees would work together to make the 2010 Commonwealth Games a successful one. Kalmadi and Hooper were recently involved in a war of words, where Kalmadi had demanded that the CGF call back Hooper from Delhi , and had described Hooper’s two-year stint with the Organising Committee as useless and an impediment. On the other hand, Hooper had refuted the charges, saying they were “unwanted, unfair and unjust.”
