Justice Dinakaran's name not on list for SC appointment
New Delhi:Chief Justice of India KG Balakrishnan on Sunday said that the Supreme Court Collegium has withdrawn the name of Karnataka High Court Chief Justice PD Dinakaran from the list of judges who were to be evaluated for appointment to the apex court. Addressing the media on the sidelines of the All-India Conference of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) in the national capital, Chief Justice of India Balakrishnan said: "We have only asked that the names of four other judges should be processed for their appointment as judges of the Supreme Court." According to reports, the names of Madhya Pradesh High Court Chief Justice AK Patnaik, Punjab High Court Chief Justice TS Thakur, Calcutta High Court Chief Justice SS Nijjar and Gujarat High Court Chief Justice KS Radhakrishnan will be evaluated. Justice Dinakaran's name has been reportedly dropped due to the allegations of corruption and land encroachment against him. Earlier, the CJI had sought a report from Tamil Nadu Government on the allegations. The District Collector of Thiruvallur, Palani Kumar, had submitted his report to the apex court, which confirmed that Dinakaran had encroached on 197 acres of public land illegally.
