Fire destroys Banarasi saris’ go-down in Varanasi
Varanasi:A warehouse of famed Banarasi saris was gutted in fire in Varanasi on Tuesday, incurring losses worth millions. The godown, stocked with Banarasi saris situated in Madanpura area caught fire in the early hours of morning. At least three fire engines were pressed into service to douse the fire. Although the fire was brought under control after prolonged efforts, but the entire stock was destroyed in fire. According to the personnel manning the godowns, all the saris, including the expensive Banarasi saris, were burnt. Although the reasons for the fire are still unknown, it is suspected that the fire must have started due to an electric shot circuit. No casualties have been reported. Faulty wirings often cause electric short circuits leading to such mishaps.
