Earthquake measuring 5.0 on Richter scale jolts parts of Maharashtra
Mumbai:A strong earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale jolted several parts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai, on Saturday evening. According to reports, the tremors were felt for a few seconds around 5.21 p.m. "There have been tremors of earthquake measuring 5.0 at the Richter scale with latitude 70.1 degrees north and longitude 73.8 degrees south in Kyona region at around 5.22 in the evening. The shocks have been felt from 150 to 200 kilometres from the region," said Madhukar Jadhaw, Assistant Meteorologist of Pune. "In the neighbouring areas cracks in the buildings have been witnessed, however, no loss of life has been reported," he added. The epicentre of the earthquake was reportedly near the Koyna Dam located between Chipnur and Karad. The Konkan region consisting, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurga, Raigadh and Pune also experienced the minor tremor. No damage to life has been reported till the reports came in.
