Opposition parties hold protests against price rise; Lok Sabha adjourned
New Delhi: The Lok Sabha was on Wednesday adjourned till Thursday over the price rise debate. Members belonging to the Bharatiya
Janata Party (BJP), Samajwadi Party (SP), Left Parties, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)
and Biju Janata Dal shouted slogans inside the House, saying, "Check price rise
or change the government." The debate began when the MPs from the Left parties
and the SP disturbed the House during Question Hour, drawing everybody's
attention to the matter of price rise. Earlier, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar had
adjourned the House till 11:30 over the debate. Meanwhile, a similar protest continued in
Rajya Sabha today as well and it was adjourned till 11:30 this morning. The agitated
MPs were insisting on universalisation of the public distribution system (PDS)
and a check on the prices of essential commodities. They also demanded to bring the
necessary commodities under the PDS at lower rates. The CPI MPs were still shouting
slogans outside the House, demanding a change in government over the question
of price rise.
