Kolkata:The Communist party of India (Marxist) is against formation of separate state of Telangana out of Andhra Pradesh, according to MK Pandhe, politburo member of the party and president of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU). Talking to reporters on Tuesday on the sidelines of the 5th
conference
of the All India Beedi Workers' Federation, he said language should be the basis
of formation of a separate state, which is not the case in the case of Telangana.
"Languages should be the basis of formation of any state, that basis should be
there. People of Andhra Pradesh are one people, you see, they all speak Telugu,
the history is the same, the culture is the same, and then why should that people
be split in two unions?" asked Pandhe. He expressed concern over the issue of
price rise of essential commodities, and called for strengthening of public distribution
system. Telangana region comprises over 10 northern districts of Andhra Pradesh
state. Political analysts feel that the creation of the new state of Telangana
may fuel social unrest and separatist demands in other states. Several regions
of India have already been demanding autonomy for better governance, such as
Vidarbha,
Kamtapur, and Gorkhaland.
