New Delhi: The Delhi Administration has swung into
on Saturday to rescue villagers dwelling on the banks of the River Yamuna, which has
risen close to danger level following incessant rain in the catchment
areas. According to official sources, the water level in Yamuna had reached 204.55
metres on Saturday morning. The Delhi administration has asked the people living
on the Yamuna banks and in the lower areas to move to safer places. The officials
expected the water level would reach 205.05 metres - above the danger
mark, by the evening. The Delhi Administration has deployed 13 boats and 42 divers
at various places along the river to help the people to move to safer places. A continuous
shower for the past 48 hours around Delhi has bridged the deficiency gap in the
monsoon this season. The city has received 576.8 mm rain this season as against
a normal of 578.1 mm.
