Security tightened for RJD-sponsored Bihar shutdown
Patna: Schools, shops and government offices remained closed in Patna today in view of the shutdown called by the Rashtriya Janata Dal against price rise in essential
commodities. No violence was reported from across the state. Former chief minister
of Bihar Rabri Devi, along with her husband and RJD chief Lalu Prasad, led a protest
march in Patna, to register their protest against the failure of the state and Central
governments for to curb the rising inflation. Security had been tightened across Bihar
on Thursday ahead of the shutdown called by the Rashtriya Janata Dal in protest
against soaring commodity and food prices in the country. Ram Vilas Paswan's Lok
Janshakti Party and the Left Parties were supporting this shutdown. RJD chief Lalu
Prasad Yadav said the shutdown was being organised to protest against the lack of
facilities for common people and the high prices. Essential services like water,
electricity and railways were exempted from the shutdown.
