Ten injured in violence between political activists in North 24 Parganas
North 24 Parganas (WB):At least ten people were injured during violence between activists of the Trinamool Congress and the Communist Party of India (Marxist at Sason Panchayat area in the North 24 Parganas district on Sunday. The incident took place when candidates of both the parties were about to file nominations at Dugdia Paltadanga high school of the Sason Panchayat area. "The Inspector-in-charge of police station had called for a peace meeting on Feb 13 evening. It was decided in the meeting that if Trinamool Congress activists resort to some sort of violence, then they would be responsible for that and the same would be applied for the CPI-M. As the meeting was peaceful, they (CPI-M supporters) felt that they would loose the election. So they fired indiscriminately and discharged bombs with the help of outside cadres," said Shafikul Alam, a leader of Trinamool Congress. Initially, police resorted to baton-charge and bursting teargas shells to bring the situation under control but after failing in the attempt, they had to fire in the air to control the situation.
