Bollywood's designer defines runaway brides at Lakme Fashion Week

Mumbai: On the second day of the ongoing fashion week in Mumbai on Sunday, Bollywood's most sought after designer Manish Malhotra showcased his bridal collections. Malhotra's collection which was inspired from the idea of a bride running away from the altar, included the collection consisting of rich brocades, velvet, silk, tussar, net, lace and organza. In a colour palette which is favoured for wedding wear, the hues ranged from cobalt, burgundy, old rose, grey, cream, olive, fawn and brown for women's wear. The circular panelled skirts, long kurtas and saris had red in common but lot more of beiges, jade and moss greens detailed with gold, silver and bronze touches. But gorgeous saris in striking red and bronze net with velvet appliqué touches and heavy zardozi work were the highlight of the show along with the grand lehengas. "It's a bridal collection. I think this kind of a colour palette you can wear in summer as well as in autumn-winter," said Malhotra. One can witness Bollywood parade in Malhotra's shows as top actors of silver screen Kajol, Urmila Matondkar, Shabhana Azmi, Amrita Rao arrived to watch the spectacular evening. Shabana Azmi, who seemed completely bowled over by Malhotra's collection, said all the pieces were wearable. "Manish has kept all the traditionality and yet given it its zing," said Azmi. The background score of Malhotra's show also gelled well with the collection as the music had a punch of Bollywood in it too. It was defiant yet positive and joyful.
