Traffic wing of Delhi police acquires 200 motorbikes ahead of CWG

New Delhi: Delhi police Commissioner YS Dadwal flagged off 200 new traffic police motorbikes on Tuesday. The additional traffic control squad is expected to ease traffic chaos ahead of the October Commonwealth Games. "The process of acquiring new traffic police bikes started in 2008 and since then 200 motorcycles have been added to the fleet every year. The bikes have been very effective in making traffic police's presence felt on city roads. Road accidents have got reduced as people have now become conscious of traffic rules," Dadwal told reporters. "The bikes help traffic police personnel to remain mobile and intercept defaulters immediately,'' he added. "Officers recruited for patrolling on the city roads have been given training. They are also skilled bikers," he said. "In emergency situations when traffic lights stop working or when there is a traffic jam, the policemen in this fleet are capable of directing traffic as well,'' he added. He further claimed that the ongoing digging work by various government departments and agencies was not clashing with the functioning of the traffic police. "There was perfect coordination between the traffic police and civic agencies," he added.
