Monsoon therapy lures tourists to Kerala

Kochi: Traditional Ayurveda therapy, especially done during the monsoon season, is being made an attractive proposition with special packages in Kochi to lure maximum number of tourists from across the country and abroad. Most of the dedicated centres in and around the city are geared up to draw tourists in a big way. They have introduced various special packages combining stay treatment. According to Ayurvedic physician Madhur Das, these kinds of treatments aim to detoxify the body and balance the mental peace. "We have an Ayurvedic treatment called Panchkarma, which takes out the toxins from the body. So the detoxification process is very healthy and gives you more strength. It builds the resistance power in you and building up the immunity," said Das. Small and big spa centers in the state have slashed the rates from 20 percent to 50 percent, to draw maximum customers. The packages may range between Rs.3, 000 to Rs.15, 000 and can include food, accommodation and specialist treatment. Organizers of the centers believe that there is a great potential for the therapy outside the state. "We are looking for awareness, outside Kerala as people in Kerala already knows about these monsoon treatments. We want this monsoon ayurveda should be taken by outside people too," said Viswajith Kurup, Executive Director, Birla Kerala Vaidyashala. Monsoon therapy is also known as Karkkidaka Chikilsta dealing with internal cleansing of sense organs.
