August 5, 2010 | Exotic bird over Rs 100,000 up for sale in Jaipur | Jaipur: An increasing number of bird lovers in Jaipur city are getting drawn to buy exotic birds unmindful of their high prices. The residents are showing interest in these birds no matter they may cost them Rs. one lakh or above. Different types of parrots, like the
Macaw, Cockatoos, Parakeets, Cockatiels and Conures are favourites among bird
enthusiasts. "Their (parrots/macaw) specialty is that they learn to talk very
soon. They are big in size and they speak very clearly, like a human. They are
very intelligent and they are very good pets because they never leave their home,"
said Arvind Sharma, a bird seller. The quality of voice modulation and imitation
makes these parrots very lovable and desirable pets, despite their high prices.
Also beautiful fantail pigeons, lovebirds, pheasants and other exotic birds, which
have been brought to India from all over the world, are also available. "Exotic
birds are those which are found very rarely, even in foreign countries. We have
brought these birds to India so that people will know about them and keep them
as pets. We raise all these birds ourselves, and feed them with by hand too. They
do not bite and they speak very nicely if you teach them," said Utkarsh Rathore,
a bird seller. More than 10,000 exotic birds are bred every year in many Indian
cities, including Pune, Hyderabad and Kolkata. |
