IAF women's expedition to Mt. Saser flagged off

     New Delhi: A six-member Indian Air Force (IAF) women mountaineering expedition was flagged off here on Monday. The team led by Sqn Ldr Sunita Rani was flagged off by Air Officer-in-charge-Administration, Air Marshal JN Burma at the Air Headquarters. The team is to undertake an expedition to Mt. Saser Kangri (7672 m), the highest peak in Saser Muztagh, the eastern-most sub-range of Karakoram mountains in India. It is also the 35th highest peak peak in the world. The expedition to Mt. Saser Kangri is another stepping stone towards the preparation of the IAF Womens' Expedition to Mt. Everest planned in May 2011. The team has already scaled Mt. Stok Kangri (6121m) in Ladakh region in Aug 09, Bhagirathi-II (6513m) in Gangotri region in Sep 09, Mt. Kamet (7757m) and Mt. Abi Gamin (7354m) in Garwhal Himalayas in May 2010.
