August 20, 2010 | Heroine worth Rs 5 cr, fake currency notes worth Rs 9.5 lakh seized at Attari | Attari: Customs officials on Saturday seized a major haul of counterfeit currency notes of 500 denomination and one kilogram of heroine worth rupees five crore in the international market from a goods train from Pakistan at the Attari railway station. The fake notes are valued Rs 9.5 lakh. The seizure of fake currency
notes and Contraband was made while carrying out a search operation by officials
of the custom department here. "This is the second biggest haul of fake currency
from goods train as on August 10 also Rs. nine lakhs of fake currency was recovered
from the same train," said Additional Commissioner of Customs, S M. Akhtar. He
said the custom department was on the vigil, and taking all precautionary measures.
The department has tightened security measures to prevent any mischievous attempt
of anti-national elements. The goods train that has already been on the scanner
of Indian security officials arrived here at Attari railway station at around
4 p.m.. This was fourth such incident in the recent past where contrabands were
sent to India concealed in the hidden cavities of goods train. |
