Cloudburst damages Kullu houses, roads

Kullu: A cloudburst over Tharaman village in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district caused a flashflood, damaging several houses and roads in the region. "At around 3.30 a.m. there was a cloudburst. Due to heavy flow of water we had to vacate the village at night," said Amar, a local resident. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Kullu R. K. Purthy said that so far there were no reports of human casualties, and assessments of the damage is being conducted. "Due to the cloudburst, a lot of boulders and sludge have come down and they have damaged the road badly. The good thing is that there is no report of human casualty. The 'Tehsildar' and Naib Tehsildar are doing recce of the area. And today in the afternoon, we will decide what actions to take regarding the floods," said Purthy. After the incident, local residents of Tharman, Grahan, Bradha, and Juani Ropa villages left their houses in hurry. Several vehicles were also saved due to quick action by local residents. Villagers are worried about their crops, as this is the harvest season.
