September 27, 2009 | Air India pilots' strike continues | New Delhi:
The deadlock between Air India management and
agitating pilots continued even on second day on Sunday. The executive pilots
of the national carrier did not report to work on Sunday and continued their protest
against cut in the productivity-linked incentives (PLI). Air India has cancelled
fourteen flights from Delhi on Sunday morning. The agitating pilots continue to
maintain that the airlines management is trying to play down the effectiveness
of their strike. However, Air India management insisted that the strike would
not be allowed to have an impact on their operations. According to sources, the
pilots body is willing to try and reach a consensus, provided talks are hosted
on neutral grounds. According to Air India sources, talks between the striking
pilots and Air India are on the cards later on Sunday, as Chief Managing Director
(CMD) Arvind Jadhav would meet the executive pilots in Mumbai this afternoon.
But representative of the agitating executive pilots, Captain V K Bhalla said
that any talks with Air India management would take place only on a neutral platform.
Captain Bhalla also said that the management has to withdraw the directive regarding
the cut in the PLI before the talks. Meanwhile, the Indian Commercial Pilot's
Association (ICPA), a union of the non-executive pilots recognised by the airline,
extended its moral support to the agitating pilots. |
