October 4, 2010 | UK joins US in warning tourists against Mumbai-type terror attacks in Europe | London: Britain has reportedly joined the U.S. in warning tourists to remain vigilant amid fears of al-Qaeda's commando-style attacks in Europe following a series of terror alerts. The Foreign Office reportedly warned that there was a 'high threat'
of attacks in countries including France and Germany, besides the 'general threat'
that was previously identified. "Like other large European countries, the
French/German
authorities continue to consider that there is a high threat of terrorism. Attacks
could be indiscriminate, including in places frequented by expatriates and foreign
travellers," the Daily Mail quoted the Foreign Office, as saying. The move has
come shortly after the US State Department issued guidance urging Americans to
be vigilant when visiting Europe, highlighting the 'potential for terrorists to
attack public transportation systems and other tourist infrastructure'. The report
suggested that al-Qaeda were plotting the commando-style attacks like those that
rocked Mumbai city two years back. It is speculated that Osama bin Laden could
be masterminding the latest plots personally, the paper said. Earlier, UK Home
Secretary Theresa May urged the British public to report any suspicious activity
