October 12, 2010 | Malaysia's AirAsia wins TTG best Asian low-cost carrier award | Bangkok: Malaysia's low-cost airline AirAsia has been named the best Asian low-cost carrier by TTG, Asia Pacific's leading travel news publisher. About 48,000 votes were cast in a poll, which was held from June to August. AirAsia Chairman Aziz Bakar received the award at the 21st annual TTG Travel Awards 2010 ceremony in Bangkok. Talking about the award, Bakar said: "This award reflects AirAsia's commitment to excellence and to growing travel and tourism in the region." "We have flown 100 million guests in only eight
years of operations as a low-cost airline that has made it truly possible for
everyone to fly," the Star quoted Bakar, as saying. AirAsia operates scheduled
domestic and international flights, and is Asia's largest low-fare, no-frills
airline. It was also the first airline in the region to implement fully ticketless
travel. Its main base is the Low-Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) at Kuala Lumpur
International Airport (KLIA). Earlier, the airline had also won the 2010 Skytrax
World's best low-cost airline award.
