Pune zoo launches animal adoption scheme

Pune: The Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park in Pune has launched a programme 'Adopt an Animal' to bring in people's participation in the upkeep of the inmates in the zoo. As per the scheme, any citizen, family, institute or a corporate organisation can adopt a zoo animal for a day, month, three months or for a year and even three years or five years, by bearing the cost of the animal's food and routine care. "Under this scheme by bearing animal's food and maintenance cost anybody can be a part of this scheme," said Rajkumar Jadhav, Director of Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park, Pune. Coinciding with the World Wildlife Week celebrated in the first week of October, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) under which this zoo functions, launched this scheme. There are four different categories under which people can adopt the animals. The visitors to the zoo are happy with this scheme and said that animal lovers should take advantage of this. "This scheme is good. Animal lovers should take advantage of this scheme so that people all over the world could learn to admire and love animals. People should adopt animals only if they can take care of them otherwise adopting animals is of no use," said Samir Lokhande, a visitor.
