35 tourists drown in Thekkady as boat capsizes

     Thekkady (Kerala): The death toll in the boat tragedy in Periyar in Kerala's Thekkady district rose to 35 on Wednesday evening. Earlier, the toll was pegged at six persons. So far, ten persons have been rescued from the Periyar river where the mishap occurred. The mishap occurred at 5.30 pm when some persons excited at watching wild elephants roaming on the banks of the river in the Thekkady Wildlife Sanctuary tilted the balance of the boat, toppling it over. There were 80 persons, most of them from Karnataka, riding in the boat at the time of the tragedy.
