October 23, 2010 | 8 train coaches derail in Uttarakhand after damage to fishplates: Sabotage suspected | Laksar (Uttarakhand): Eight coaches of a passenger train derailed near Uttarakhand's Laksar town. No casualties were reported. The train was running from Moradabad to Saharanpur. Police and railway officials rushed
to the site and have begun investigations into the mishap that took place on Friday.
The railway officials suspected sabotage and said that anti-social elements damaged
fishplates, which are metal bars bolted to the ends of two rails to join them
together in a track. "No passenger has been hurt in the incident. We are investigating
the matter and are trying to find the reason behind the accident. It may be the
work of some anti-social elements that broke the railway tracks. So, we are investigating the matter as to how it occurred," said A. K. Singhal, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Moradabad. "The civil police also came to the spot and they also agreed that some kind of tampering has been done with the railway tracks," he added. The railway and security officials rescued all the 240 passengers from the eight coaches. All the other trains running on that route have been cancelled and the
removing of the coaches from the railway track is on since the wee hours of Saturday
morning.
