German students pick up Hindi in Ahmedabad to understand Indian culture

     Ahmedabad: Five German students are here learning Hindi at the Bhasha Bhavan Vidyapeeth Institute. They are on a year-long study tour of India. "I see more foreign students coming to learn other languages that is generally for Hindi and Gujarati," said K.K.Bhaskaran, Director, Bhasha Bhavan Vidyapeeth. The young students said they are keen to learn the language to understand Indian culture. "I hope when I can speak Hindi, then I can really interact with people and really understand them," said German student Gundula Hage. The girls are visiting India as part of their internship at the Centre for Environment Education in Gujarat. They will be involved in a variety of projects that range from teaching English and painting at a primary school in the Vidyapith campus to spreading awareness about the environment. The students who are scheduled to return to Germany in August 2011. They said they have watched a few Hindi movies and have learnt to sing Bollywood songs.
