Dindigul fishing festival attracts huge crowds

Dindigul: A fishing festival in Tamil Nadu's Dindigul District witnessed huge participation from neighbouring villages. Villagers from about 25 villages participated in the festival and enjoyed catching fish along with their family members and neighbours. The week-long festival fosters a spirit of brotherhood and a feeling of peace and harmony. "In Nallampatti Rajakulam, the fishing festival was organised today. After offering prayers, we are given instructions on how to catch fishes and then, all of us catch fish in this pond. If we get lot of fish, we will distribute it among our family members and this is a happy event for us," said Subburaj, a villager. The villagers also believe that by offering prayers, water resources in several villages of the district would increase and flourish cultivation in the region. "This festival will improve the cultivation in the village," said Subburaj, a villager. Fishermen also invite their family members from the nearby villages for this festival. The villager, who catches the maximum number of fish, is declared as the winner and awarded a cash prize.
