Two killed as wild bison strays into village

Cooch Behar (West Bengal): Two people were killed and five injured when a wild bison strayed into a village in Darikamari in West Bengal's Cooch Behar district from Jaldapara Sanctuary on Tuesday. The bison attacked everything that came in its way before forest rangers were summoned to drive it away. "It arrived at around 5'o clock in the morning and entered two houses and attacked two people. They were taken to hospitals, but were declared dead," said Paresh Roy, a local resident. The villagers further said that the situation could have been brought under control had the forest rangers arrived on time. According to the locals, the forest officials came on the spot five hours late, despite an emergency call to them. The forest rangers and wildlife wardens brought the wild bison after firing tranquilizers and they also relocated it back into the sanctuary.
