October 16, 2009 | Corbett Park reopens for public | Ramnagar: The Jim Corbett National Park has reopened for the public after a four-month long break during the monsoon. On its reopening, the wildlife warden
of the sanctuary permitted only day-long visit and the preference was extended
to school students and tourists from abroad. Incidentally, the school students
had actively participated in the Wildlife Week, which was celebrated recently.
"We opened the park and initially allowed vehicles of school students. Thirty
vehicles to tour inside were already booked," said V K Singhal, director, Jim
Corbett National Park. For the school students and youngsters, the reopening of
the park turned to be a refreshing experience, particularly after the gruelling
schoolwork. Foreign tourists said they were delighted and wished to experience
the thrills of watching wildlife from close quarters. "I am happy and quite excited
to go back to the journey zone," said Joel, a foreign tourist. The Jim Corbett
Park is home to tigers, leopards, jungle cat, fishing cat, Himalayan Palm civet,
tuskers, crocodiles, gharials and Asian elephants. |
