October 20, 2009 | India's longest elevated expressway opens to traffic in Hyderabad | Hyderabad:
India's longest elevated expressway,
built at a cost of rupees 4.39 billion, opened in Hyderabad on Monday. The 11.6
kilometres long elevated expressway, named after former Prime Minister P V Narasimha
Rao, connects Mehdipatnam area to Aramgarh junction on the National Highway (NH
7) leading to the international airport. Inaugurated by Chief Minister K Rosaiah,
the expressway will save travel time from Hyderabad International Airport at Shamshabad
to the city by 30 to 40 minutes. The inauguration, which was scheduled for October
2, was put off in view of the death of former state chief Y S Rajasekhara Reddy. |
