Malaysia told to install Tamil signboards at airports

Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia 's Tourism Ministry has been urged to install Tamil signboards and announcements at airports in order to cater to non-English speaking Indians. The Star quoted Malaysian Indian Congress Youth secretary R. Sivaraj, as saying that the government should ensure hassle-free guidance for Tamil-speaking tourists. Sivaraj expressed surprise over how could the Tourism Minister Dr Ng Yen Yen presume that most Indian tourists were proficient in English. "There are tourists from South India who only know Tamil," he said. Earlier, Dr Ng Yen Yen had told the parliament that Tamil was not included in the promotional Malaysia Truly Asia DVD as most Indian visitors were from the middle-income group and were proficient in English.
