Cold wave sweeps across Dharamsala

Dharamsala: The mercury level dipped low and cold wave gripped Dharamsala following snowfall in the upper reaches of Himachal Pradesh, with the mountains overlooking the town being covered by a sheet of white snow. However, the tourists visiting from the plains are waiting to experience snow in Dharamsala itself. "The weather is quite cold here. We can see the snow covered mountains in the distance and we wish that we can go back after enjoying the snowfall here," said Upender, a tourist. Those associated with tourism industry are expecting to do roaring business, seeing the influx of tourists to Dharamsala. "It has snowed since last night, because of which the temperature has come down. Tourists have started coming here from the plains, which is good for our business. It has snowed in the upper reaches and we expect it to snow here as well, so that our business can grow," said Shyam, a travel agent. The upper reaches of Himachal Pradesh's Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur received around two to three inches of snowfall. The regions of Rohtang Pass and Baralacha Pass also received snowfall. The lower areas of the state like Dharamsala, Shimla, Solan, Nahan, Mandi received rainfall, bringing down the temperature considerably.
