Heavy snowfall in Ladakh: Srinagar-Kargil-Leh highway closed

Leh: Life in Ladakh was thrown out of gear on Tuesday as the entire region in Jammu and Kashmir received heavy snowfall - the region, including Kargil district, is covered with a thick layer of snow. The 434-kilometre long Srinagar-Kargil-Leh highway was also closed for traffic for several hours. "It is snowing since yesterday; it has not stopped yet. As you can see it's still raining and the roads are blocked. The people are facing a lot of problems while walking on the roads. The traffic has also been blocked in several places," said Moulam Gyato, a resident. " Last year, there was no snowfall till November, but this year the snow has arrived earlier. Last year snowfall amounted up to six inches, but this year the snowfall ranges up to 8 to 10 inches," said Gulam Mohammad, another resident.
