Beach polo enthrals audience in Goa

Panjim: An exhibition beach polo match mesmerised tourists here on New Year's Eve. Hundreds of tourists both foreigners and locals thronged the Inter Continental, The Grand Resort Goa, located at Raj Baga, Canacona, to witness the game. This variant of polo was organised for the first time not only in Goa but also in South-Asia. Only a few beaches of the world like Miami, Dubai, Dorset (UK) and others have hosted this variant of arena polo. Many famed polo players including Jai Shergill, Angad Kalaan, Uday Kalaan, Ransher Singh, Tony Kohli, Navin Khanna and others participated in the event. Chief Minster Digambar Kamat also witnessed the game, which requires some amazing display of horsemanship. Addressing reporters after the game, Kamat noted that many other places would also come forward to hold such events. "It is a good and entertaining game. I think this can go on to many places. Since Goa get the honour of getting it for the first time, I think many people and places will try to hold it and that will give a message to the people also," Kamat said. Polo players were delighted after receiving overwhelming response from the spectators. "The response we received from local people here in incredible. The turnout is great, the ambience is out of the world, and the arena was good. I think we are going to do it again next year...it will surely become an annual event and we will also get more teams," Ransher Singh, a polo player. The colonial Portuguese charm, sun-kissed beaches and great seafood attract millions of foreign and domestic tourists to visit Goa every year.
