Tourists converge at Pahalgam to witness snowfall

Pahalgam (Jammu and Kashmir): Following fresh snowfall, tourists have converged in large numbers at Pahalgam, a hundred kilometres from Srinagar, and located in the southeast of Kashmir valley. Pahalgam is surrounded by lofty mountains and is washed by gushing streams and rivulets. All these make it a perfect tourist spot. "It's beautiful here, especially after Monday's snowfall, the place has become more beautiful. Since the snow is fresh and soft, it's not slippery. And this is a good time to roam around and enjoy the landscapes." said Reshma, a tourist from New Delhi. Though Pahalgam is known as a summer tourist destination yet this time, scores of tourists gathered here to celebrate their Christmas and New Year holidays. The arrival of tourists in large numbers also brought smiles on the faces of the people involved in tourism industry. "This year, the tourist inflow here has been the best in the last 20 years. Tourist season here since December has been very encouraging," said Abdul Salaam, a hotel manager. Pahalgam is also an ideal destination for hiking, trekking, fishing and water rafting.
