Room warmers for animals at Gwalior zoo

Gwalior: In view of the cold wave sweeping across the region, the authorities of Gandhi Zoological Park in Gwalior have taken the initiative and made special arrangements for the animals to beat the biting cold wave. They have installed thatch curtains and heaters in the cages of the animals to protect them from cold. Animals have been provided with dried straw mats, sacks and blankets to keep them warm. Santosh Kumar Mittal, veterinary doctor said that with the temperatures dipping the zoo authorities were taking all the steps necessary to help the animals stay warm. "To protect these animals especially the lions, tigers and leopards from cold we have put heaters inside their enclosures. We have put wooden panels for them to sit and during the night we close their enclosures and start the heaters so that they remain warm. During the day we make sure that they are exposed to sunlight," he added. "As per my knowledge the zoo authorities have made special arrangements to protect the animals from the cold. The arrangements are better than the previous years," said Monica, a visitor. Every year during the winter season, the zoo authorities make arrangements to keep the animals cozy and comfortable. Alterations in the diet of animals are also made.
