January 13, 2010 | Tiger found dead in Corbett Park | Jim Corbett National Park (Uttarakhand): The officials at Jim Corbett National Park have spotted a tiger dead, the fourth since December last year. The officials feel that the death may be due to overcrowding. A recent
census indicated that every eight kilometers could provide habitation to one tiger.
"I believe the death we have seen today could be a case of poisoning, but we are
still to receive the results of the post-mortem report," said RK Mishra , Director
of Corbett National Park. "In a park like Corbett , where there is a larger tiger
population, the animals tend to fight over their territory so it could be a mature
male which has killed a younger tiger," Mishra added. The latest death comes just
days after the big cat topped the World Wide Fund for Nature's Annual List of
Ten Species to Watch. Earlier on January 6, a four-year-old cub was found dead
at the reserve. |
