Puppet exhibition in Bhopal a major tourist attraction

Bhopal: A puppet exhibition here is fascinating a large number of people from all around, as the large varieties of puppets on display not just belong to India but different countries as well. The exhibition has been held as part of Bhopal Lok Rang Festival from Jan.27 to 31. The biggest attraction for the visitors at the exhibition, however, is the puppets from Argentina and Indonesia. "If we start moving puppets here, soon people will gather. From children to the elderly, everybody enjoys it. All of them get charmed towards it," said Sudeep Gupta, an organizer of the event. Puppeteers from different parts of India are also a major draw at this event. "In total, we are using 160 puppets. We are performing all night. Earlier, we needed 25 people to take care of shows. We have a 42-feet long theatre. You can find a puppet theatre only in Kerala," said K K Ramchandra Phulwar, a puppeteer. Puppetry is a traditional art form, whose popularity is fast declining, as the modern day entertainment options like television, movies and Internet are fast displacing it.
